Bangor Car & Motorcycle Show, Saturday 22nd May 2010 |
|
As a recent blow-in, I am amazed at the way the Bangor VJMC lads have kept such an amazing secret for so long. I refer to the annual Bangor Car and Motorcycle Show in Northern Ireland which, this year, took place on Saturday 22nd May in the Bangor Elim Complex.
There was something there to suit most peoples’ tastes including a fashion show, live stage entertainment for children and a police BikeSafe event. To top it off, the whole day was bathed in unbroken sunshine.
The trusty beer mobile was once again deployed for transporting bikes, a task it performed with absolute ease. Unfortunately the same could not be said of poor Brian who spent the day hobbling around using a crutch he had borrowed from Billy. Contrary to recent speculation, his injuries were not sustained while walking Billy’s dog, Zach.
Every cloud has a silver lining and, because Brian was using a crutch, we were able to park closer to the door than was normally allowed. I wonder if Brian will borrow that crutch again next year.
The guys put on a fresh display of twelve quality machines which were a credit to the section. I would like to extend my gratitude to all who helped in any way.

There was a huge number and variety of bikes on display: classic, off-road, mini, race and modern:

No bike show would be complete without a custom section:

There appears to be a growing interest in trikes in Northern Ireland and numbers on the road certainly are increasing. I hope you will check out the pictures below of the trike which had been designed to carry four dogs in comfort (boxer and a couple of pups). At a mere point of the finger and one call, the boxer would jump into his trike-bed, complete with screen, and have his seat belt and goggles fitted. The rider even had one of those hats that Brian covets so dearly.

Former World Champion Kevin Carmichael (sponsored by local business man and road racing legend, Phillip McCallen) and the UK Freestyle Motocross (UKFMX) Team took turns to give the crowd some high octane thrills. Thanks to Andy G. for sending me on some additional photos - much appreciated.
 Set 1/4
If that isn’t enough, check out the huge array of cars – vintage, classic, race, modern and kit (Ulster Kit Car Club). Continuing with the local theme, there was even a Belfast manufactured De Lorean (as featured in the “Back to the Future” films).
 Set 1/16
How could you ask for anything more? Every credit to Phil and his team at the Elim Church for organising such a spectacle.
