Bangor Car & Motorcycle Show, Saturday 28th May 2011

The Bangor Car & Motorcycle Show 2011 took place in the Bangor Elim Complex on Saturday 28th May. An impressive line-up of entertainment included displays by the UKFMX Freestyle Motocross Team, the Trialstar Motorcycle Display Team, a Scrabo Heli Club Flying Display, a Fashion Show and a special guest appearance by racing legend Leslie McMaster.

It was while having a chat with Eric about his 40th Anniversary Honda Monkey Bike and how it complemented Brian's Yamaha PW 50 that I learned he had bought 3 of the machines, one each for his wife Carolyn and sons Justin and Jonathan. The bike at the show belonged to Carolyn.

Everyone pitched in as usual and we very quickly had our bikes, lights, stands and banners in place. 11 machines were assembled on the Friday evening with the CBX due on the Saturday morning.

Saturday morning came and as I approached the show I was amused to come across Alan pushing the CBX. I wondered if he was trying to save fuel or reduce emissions. On stopping to give a hand I discovered it was only a flat battery and not an issue with that legendary Honda reliability.

We had 12 bikes on the Bangor Section VJMC stand:
Alan's 1981 Honda CBX 1000
Brian's 1980s Suzuki TS 125
Ricky's 1976 Honda TL 125
Stuart's 1976 Yamaha TY 175
Drew's 1989 Honda XBR 500
Tommy's 1987 Honda NSR 250
David's GT 250 X7 EN (a work in progress  and a model David used to race in the Formula 3 class)
Eric's 2007 Honda 40th Anniversary Monkey Bike
Brian's 1976 Yamaha RD 400 C
Geoff's 1962 Honda CB 72 (purchased by Geoff the day before the show)
Richard's 1975 Honda CB 750 K2
Brian's 1981 Yamaha PW 50

Phil and the organising Elim team had managed to put on another exceptional spectacle for the public and here are some pictures of the bikes. I especially liked the display of Nortons.

Finally, some pictures of the cars. I found the army vehicles interesting and was amazed at how machines which were once so common now appear so out of place.

My thanks to the members for putting on such a formidable display and it was especially heartening to see how popular the mini bikes were with the kids. The future of motorcycling is not in doubt.
